BROADCAST EXPERIENCE

BBC Radio 2 – Arts Correspondent, 2012 – Present

As well as pitching, producing and presenting creative pieces for the Arts Show with Claudia Winkleman, I present Radio 2’s Arts Desk. This is a live bulletin style report which I write, produce and present on a weekly basis. My packages are normally 7-10 minutes long and take a unique look at an area of the arts, or an event that’s set to open in the coming week. Examples of reports I’ve produced include an exclusive interview and tour with Annie Lennox of her latest exhibition in Edinburgh, a trip around Bath’s Literary Festival with an exclusive chat with PD James and a behind the scenes look at the National Theatre with Adrian Lester and Sian Lloyd as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. I was allowed rare access to the rehearsal room in Brixton as Lenny Henry prepared for his west-end debut in Fences and for 1 night only, I joined the cast of the show Fuerzabruta and performed various stunts with them at the Roundhouse in London.

BBC GNS – Reporter, 2013 – Present

Report on breaking and developing news across all of the BBC’s regional stations covering national stories. Examples of stories I’ve covered include the Glasgow helicopter crash and Richard Haass recent visits to Northern Ireland.

BBC Essex – Breakfast Reporter, 2010 – Present

I report live on breaking news stories from across the region into the Sony award winning breakfast programme. I’ve a strong history of original journalism and securing exclusive interviews with contacts and those in the news. For example I was the only journalist to secure an exclusive interview with Nicki Biagioni, the crane driver who should have been on the top of a building in London on the morning a helicopter crashed into it killing several people; this ran across all national BBC outlets including Radio 4, BBC Breakfast, News Channel and BBC 5Live. I was the first journalist to enter Dale Farm behind the bailiffs as they began to evict hundreds of illegal travellers; I reported live from inside the site for BBC GNS, Radio 2, Radio 4 and RTE. I was the first reporter at the scene of a house fire in Harlow that left a mother and her five children dead; I broke this news live from the scene on Five Live, Radio 4 and BBC GNS.

BBC Essex – Presenter, 2013

The Saturday Matinee Show is a live 3-hour entertainment, arts and culture based programme focusing on news and reviews from around the Region. Running through-out the summer the show was a mix of music, theatre news and interviews, book reviews and festival reports. Each week would include a mix of pre-recorded packages, three live guests and calls from listeners. As part of a very small team, I produced all pre-recorded reports, set up at least 3 special guests every week, scripted the show and presented it live.

Five News – Broadcast Journalist, 2010 – 2012

As part of the planning team my job was to pitch ideas, draft story treatments, set up guests and some VJ duties from time to time.
