It opened at the Royal Court Theatre in June 1973. Almost immediately Richard O’Briens Rocky Horror Show became an unmissable hit. These days it’s without a doubt one of the world’s most successful rock n’ roll musicals. That success has meant it’s been performed in over 30 countries in every continent and has been translated into more than 20 languages.
Now, a year long national tour directed by Christopher Luscombe is making its way around the country to celebrate the shows 40th anniversary. Diana Vickers and Ben Freeman play squeaky-clean sweethearts Brad and Janet as they embark on an eye opening adventure they’re likely never to forget alongside Frank’n’Furter, rippling Rocky and vivacious Magenta .
The show is bursting with iconic timeless classics, including Sweet Transvestite, Damn it Janet, and of course, the pelvic-thrusting Time Warp – a song that Dian Vickers had heard before but not quite where from, as Thomas Magill found out when he spoke to both her and Ben Freeman backstage in Manchester….
